Lightsabers

A Lightsaber was a dangerous and legendary weapon of the Jedi and Sith, but is known to be used by other force using gropes. Powered by a force attuned crystal it was the preferred weapon of these two gropes, 

Lightsabers were believed to be based on the Rakatan Forcesaber, a similar but different weapon only able to be powered by the force and were a dark side weapon, It works by emitting a plasma blade out of a hilt, making a plasma weapon capable of cutting into almost anything and can deflect blaster bolts.

Only Jedi and other force gropes know how to build these weapons but The Tapani people developed a similar weapon called the Lightfoil.

Types of Lightsabers:

Basic Lightsaber, the normal model for a Lightsaber with a simple hilt and one blade.

Double-bladed Lightsaber, a Lightsaber with two Lightsaber blades instead of one:

Hinged double-bladed Lightsaber, a Double-bladed Lightsaber which has a hinge so it can bend for easier storage.

Double-bladed spinning Lightsaber, the Lightsaber used by the inquisitors, has an axis it spins on to look intimidating.

Splitsaber, a Double-bladed Lightsaber which could split into two separate blade.

Lightsaber pike, like the normal Double-bladed with shoto blade instead on normal blades.

Lightsaber lance, a Lightsaber that resembles a spear.

Dual-phase Lightsaber, a Lightsaber which can change its blade length and colour.

Broadsaber, A normal Lightsaber with a blade shaped like a typical sword.

Great Lightsaber, a Lightsaber made for large individuals, blades usually 3 meters long.

Crossguard Lightsaber, a Lightsaber with vents on the side to release energy, design used for unstable crystals so the don't explode.

Curved-hilt Lightsaber, a Lightsaber with a curved hilt for better control of movement.

Sabercane, A  normal Lightsaber hidden within a cane or a staff to conceal the weapon.

Training Lightsaber, normal Lightsabers used for training, usually unable to cut into much things for safety purposes.

Shoto Lightsaber, a Lightsaber with a shorter blade, used in duel welding

Lightsaber Tonfa, a Lightsaber shoto which looks like a Tonfa, usually made of Lightsaber resistant materials.

Lightwhip, A Lightsaber like weapon with a whip instead of a blade, good for offense but not defence.

Lightsaber pistol, a Lightsaber with an inbuilt pistol function in it.

Sickle-bladed Lightsaber, a Lightsaber with a sickle blade instead of a strait one.

Peacemaker Lightsaber, a normal Lightsaber with a Vent at the back of the hilt.

Hilt design:

Most hilt's were made of metal coverings but they could be covered by wood(like Darth Malabar Lightsabers) Coral(Like Darth Talon Lightsaber), and bones. Usually the metals were normal metals but precious metals like Electrum is also used.

Sith Lightsaber and Lightsaber tonfa's were covered by Lightsaber resistant materials like Beskar and Phirik, This was because Sith wanted to preserve their Lightsabers more often then Jedi.

Hilts can have openings for another blade, like double-bladed Lightsabers, The also can look like other weapons and have extra features like the Lightsaber Pistol which had a pistol part.

They can also have vents to stabilise unstable crystals, Like Crossguard Lightsaber.

Crystals:

Usually they used kyber crystals but others crystal's like Krayt dragon pearls and Gelid Sapphire can be used as well. Kyber crystals can be White, Blue, Purple, Red, Green, Cyan, Yellow, Orange, Black, Silver and Pink, Black Kyber crystals were usually wounds in the force.

Normally Lightsaber crystals were natural ones but Synthetic crystals could be used though greatly disliked. The most common type, Kyber crystals were Mined on Ilum(Jedi) or Terrakybos(Sith) though other planets had Kyber crystals to.

Most Lightsaber crystals were force attuned so they could make bonds with their owners, the exception were Synthetic crystals. One didn't need a bond with a crystal but it was easier to use with one.

Sith Rubies as they were called, were stones which were made from compression from only dark side energies, which is called bleeding. Its different from synthetic crystals since they could only be made by the dark side only.

Training:

For many, Lightsaber training was quite hard, Most Jedi were trained from a young age on how to wield one, for most of their history the Sith trained later then others, However Sith training was much more enduring overall, closing the gap between the light-sided foes.

For most of history, one learned the basics of Lightsaber combat was well enough for standard training, many Jedi Knights and masters specialised in one form, while a few specialised in all 7 forms of Lightsaber Combat.

This was the same for the Sith for the most part, However During Darth Revan’s time and during the rule of two era it was mandatory for the Sith to have standard knowledge and practitioner of All 7 Lightsaber forms.

Even when one knows all forms of Lightsaber combat, Some primarily used one particular form for their fighting style, for example Darth Tyranus used only Form II. Special Training was required for special types of Lightsabers, like the Doble-bladed Lightsaber and Lightwhip.

History:

The earliest Lightsabers appeared on the scene around 10 000 BBY as the Protosaber, the earliest form of the Lightsaber which was connected to a power pack. Though not considered true Lightsabers they were the ancestor of the modern weapon.

Though Jedi Invented the Protosaber, modern Lightsabers came around 6000 BBY from the original Sith empire through advancements done to the weapon, considerably the fact it had a power cell rather than an external battery.

Lightsabers first came into Jedi possession after the great hyperspace war where they adopted it as their main weapon after the Sith seemingly died out. This was not the end of advancements to the weapon though.

Exar Kun invented the double-bladed Lightsaber and a Sith warrior invented the Lightwhip during the new Sith wars. Darth Guile also Invented the Spinning Double-bladed Lightsaber which would be used by the Inquisitors.

Not all advancements were made by Sith, though most were. Ezra Bridger invent the Lightsaber Pistol and it was the Jedi who Invented the Crossguard Lightsaber rather than the Sith. The Lightsaber Tonfa was also Invented by the Jedi to.
